NYC Parks Standing Firm on "25 Foot" Rule

We met with NYC Parks on November 16th and presented sound logical arguments as to why their arbitrary "25 foot" rule is discriminating against the people in our hobby. NYC Parks is saying that we (Detectorists) can not dig within 25 feet of any tree in any park. We presented documentation proving that damage to trees is caused by compacting soil (from pedestrian foot traffic) and also dog urine. We pointed out that we actually aerate the soil by recovering targets. So far NYC parks has simply reduced their new rule from 50 feet to 25 feet. If we can't go near trees based on potential damage, then all people and dogs would also need to stay away from trees.

We have requested additional Parks within NYC to detect and they are under review.

We are working on our next step and will soon update what is needed from our supporters.
