A Seminar and an\u00a0Exhibition at\u00a0University of Ioannina<\/h3>\n

History and crime fiction: tracing European identity<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

How can we use crime fiction to trace the development of European intercultural identity through the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st century?\u00a0<\/span>This seminar explores the relationship of crime fiction to both history and the social sciences in the context of a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary approach focused on the production, dissemination and consumption of this literary genre, which is extremely popular in Europe. Therefore, in this seminar, we will examine the birth conditions of the genre, its popularity in the context of popular reading and also its interconnectedness and mediativity (novel, cinema, television, new media) in European space. We will also examine how the historical experience of the 20th century impacted on the shaping of the crime genre and of the popular culture in general, towards a culture of convergence. This seminar is directly related to the research and educational activities of the European Program DETECt<\/span>. In this context, seminar meetings as well as webseminars will be organized in co-operation with researchers who participate in this program and also by experts from Greece and abroad.<\/span><\/p>\n

The next seminar meeting will take place 10 December.\u00a0<\/span>Nikos Filippaios will\u00a0focus on<\/span> “Crime fiction and the\u00a0 film noir of the 60s in Greece: historical, social and political representations”.<\/span><\/p>\n
