The participants will present current research initiatives, both within and outside the DETECt programme, that adopt digital methods such as <strong>text mining, digital mapping, data visualisation, and network analysis<\/strong>. The goal is to coordinate the activities of the different research groups in DETECt, selecting the best tools and approaches to study the transnational dimension of European popular culture, with a particular focus on the richness and diversity of crime narratives. The symposium is organised in collaboration with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.numapresse.org\/presentation-du-projet\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong><em>Numapresse: Du papier \u00e0 l&#8217;\u00e9cran \u2013 Mutations culturelles, transferts g\u00e9n\u00e9riques, po\u00e9tiques m\u00e9diatiques de la presse fran\u00e7aise<\/em><\/strong><\/a>, an international research project coordinated by Prof. Marie-Eve Th\u00e9renty (University of Montpellier). <em>Across Borders <\/em>will host a number of important scholars working on the crime genre, serial narratives and media culture more broadly. Barbara Pezzotti (Monash University, Melborune) will discuss her ongoing research on <strong>the representation of migration in Mediterranean Noir<\/strong>. Maurizio Ascari (University of Bologna) will present his work <strong>crime novels by British authors who live, write and set their works set in Italy<\/strong>. The guest are three experts and practitioners of the crime genre: <strong>Barbara Pezzotti<\/strong>, specialist of Italian crime fiction and authors of numerous studies on the transnational exchanges in this field; <strong>Stefania Nardini, <\/strong>writer, journalist and author of a biography of Jean-Claude Izzo, the \u2018father\u2019 of Mediterannean Noir; and <strong>Veit Heinichen<\/strong>, German writer who has lived and worked in Trieste for many years, setting his crime novels on a Mediterranean context that is presented as a porous border, connecting Romance, Balkanic and German cultures.
